Testing Season Begins!
During the month of March, all students in grades 3-6, will take the state mandated PARCC Exam. All ESL/Bilingual students in grades 3-6 will take the PARCC Exam in the ESL room because they will receive special accommodations. During this time, all regular ESL classes will be canceled since all of the ESL teachers will be involved with testing.

In addition to the PARCC Exam, we will also be giving the ACCESS Test to all ESL/Bilingual students. The ACCESS Test is made up of four parts: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The purpose of the ACCESS Test is to measure how much progress our students have made learning English. All ESL/Bilingual students, from K to 6th grades, will take the ACCESS Test.

Unfortunately, all of this testing means that our regular classes will be canceled for the entire month of March, and the beginning of April as well. This is always a difficult time for our "Beginners," who struggle the most in the mainstream classroom.

If you have any questions or concerns during this time, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Welcome to School 3!
I am looking forward to meeting our new and continuing ESL/Bilingual students! I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer break!

Starting in September, we will be testing our new students to see who may be eligible to be in the ESL/Bilingual program. This process often takes about two weeks. Once testing is completed, we will send letters home informing parents of their child's eligibility for ESL/BIL classes. We will also have an Orientation Meeting so that you can learn about our program and ask any questions that you may have.

I hope everyone has a great start to the new school year!
Read at home with Raz Kids
The ESL/Bilingual Department has a new reading program on the computer called Raz Kids.  This program enables our ESL students to listen to stories, read on their own, and take short quizzes about what they have read--and they can do this at home on the computer!  The students love doing it, and it's a great way to get them reading with lots of support!  Please see one of the ESL/Bilingual teachers in order to get the password and username for the Raz Kids site!   Happy Reading Everyone!!!!
